Complaint - HP Pavilion Notebook: MY REPAIR FEEDBACK

While Pavillion computer was on, but not in use, its hard drive made a load nasty grinding noise for about 5 seconds and is typically associated with a potential crashing and ultimate hard drive failure failure.

Case Manager
Overall communication with the assigned HP case manager has improved.

Network Adapter Error Message
After receiving laptop from repair, I began using core functions to test unit prior to any installations or changes to the unit and shortly into it the internal wireless (Network Adapter card) just stopped working gave the following error message (see screenshot below):

I rebooted computer twice and it still gave error and would not work. The 3rd reboot the network adapter starting working again.

NOTE: Upon receiving unit back from repair #2, I noticed a significant slower wireless connection with unit. I tested this by taking the DV9000 and my two older laptops (5 years) using external wireless adapter cards into both DSL and T1 wireless environments and the older units were now connecting much faster than the DV9000.

When I first purchased the DV9000 unit, it connected with blazing speed. Now, no matter how close I am to the connection source, the DV9000 unit seems to be under performing is wireless duties and to makes sense how the network adapter problem occurred and may fail totally in the future.

HARD DRIVE INTERMITTEN BEEPS
For well over the past 20 years, all I've owned are laptop computers and know my way around their functionality very well, and have recorded simular situations issues as a point of reference.

Since receiving the DV9000 back from repair #2 which include replacing the failed main-hard drive. The hard drive made an audible quick beep sound that I've been able to associate with a hard drive going bad. After having to immediately reship notebook back to repair center for resolves and received back, I've the hard drive beep twice since the last one. A potential problem larking in the background.

LARGE VISIBLE AND DISTRACTING DEBRE

There appears to be a spec of noticeable debris stuck bewteen the inner-monitor window and LCD. At first, the debre spec was sat stationary in the brower url address area living the impression cached / refresh spec. But then I noticed that now it has dropped further down the LCD (see photo below):

Once I'm caught up to the months of work this DV9000 has put me behind schedule on I will ship back to get this eye-soar of a problem resolved.

LCD MONITOR LIGHTING NOT BALANCED
As you can see from the partial DV9000 LCD monitor image above, the light on the monitor in unevenly distributed. From the center out gets unevenly darker and darker.

For now I just have to live with it and learn from this purchasing mistake.

Laptop received. I'm aggressively reinstalling & customizing applications daily and much, much data over the next 2-weeks before I can truly assess repair quality.

* Gash-Scratches: Resolved

* Altec Lansing Sound System
The Altec Lansing sound system inside the Pavilion DV9000 is better but far from right; still very flat. The first sound repair was done right and made a best effort to compete with Toshiba's Harmon/Kardon sound system as much as possible.

Even connecting my powerful high-quality Logitech V20 USB laptop speakers that deliver a dynamic sound or connecting my quality headphone set all sound flat on this Pavilion notebook.

I visited Fry's Electronics and did hear a better sound quality on other laptop speakers and when connecting my headphones to test the quality prior to writing this feedback. I'm in the Video/Audio industry and having to own or listen to sound of this quality is disappointing and difficult. But I'm praising the Lord for stepping in as HE did. To GOD be the glory. In short, there is no "ENTERTAINMENT" without a "QUALITY SOUND".

THE ONE MILLION-DOLLAR QUESTION?
HP Repair Management and Case Manager Support, after my inconveniences for a full year and "five-weeks" out of commission and now months behind schedule, will HP Repair Center actually fix all of the problems dependably and courteously?

* Repair Sound Problems (Clearity, Treble, Bass, Loudness VS Flat, Poor Quality, Low Volume
with the Altec Lansing sound system)

* Replace the Standard Battery and the Extra Long-Life Batteries (failed in 4 months)

* Replace Chassis around Keyboard/Mouse Pad (Repair Center Deep Gash-Scratches)

Your guess is as good as mine and I'm praying for the best applied ethics!

FYI: If you want to hear outstanding sound in a laptop, go to the electronics store and listen to the new Toshiba with the Harman/Kardon sound system which has a built-in subwhoofer in addition to the main speakers. It's smooth!

A representative called to give me a new repair/shipping date of 2008. May 8, Two more weeks + start of failed second repair March 17, 2008 = about 2 months without the use of computer and a backlog of make-up work spanning 4 months; rather than just replace with a new computer that is ungashed-unscratched and battery and sound tested and working perfectly.

The representative refused my request to email me an updated “estimated delivery” document confirming the new May 8, 2008 delivery of my Pavilion DV9000.

4/23/2008
I called back to leave message for the HP-Case Manager “I don’t wish to file this complaint, but have no choice since my calls are going unanswered and you’ve had my Pavilion DV9000 for one week and are not giving me any information.

HP-Case Manager assigned: I finally received a call from her, she says that repair is on hold due to repair management are reviewing to fix or replace the Pavilion DV9000, and that she has requested I receive an update.

Received support email telling me HP is diligently working on problem and a representative with a new repair/shipping date will contact me.

I called the Better Business Bureau On-line BB to get procedural information on filing a claim against Hewlett Packard since my phone calls to the assigned HP-Case Manager was being denied and I was totally in the dark regarding my investment and on-going problems.

I called HP-Case Manager who again refused my call. I had not received the standard unit shipped communication and person on telephone says that the repair order had been placed on hold since 4/15 unit arrival with no prior communication or acknowledgement to myself.

So I requested from the person I was speaking to email me HP’s standard communication documenting unit was received and estimated repair/shipping date back to me. REPAIR #3 of 3, 4/13/2008: SHIPPED BACK ON 4/14/2008 7:30 PM
The HP Case Manager has consistly used an insulting, disrespectful, and unprofessional customer service communication and behavior with me. She processed the repair order with incorrect ship address (correct address on file) which I discovered later on the email confirmation and called only receive more of her insult statements:

"quit calling her, she has lots of calls to handle and that she's doing me a favor by taking my call so soon".

The HP Case Manager; shipped the box again to wrong address and I had to locate fed ex and travel to pick up the HP Shipping / Return Box.

REPAIR #2 of 3: FIRST REPIAR FAILED, NOW BACK TO SOUND FAILURE / POOR QUALITY
For three months I called phone tech support who would not listen to me expressing problem and only wanted to sell me more service contracts. I repeatedly shared with tech I believed there's a problem with the motherboard and that the sound was aweful and speakers are shorting out with static on left and right sides.

After (3) months of this, them logging into my computer trying to diagnose with no resolve, I played a digital song over the telephone to a tech on my HP Pavilion, then played the same song on my 5 year old Toshiba Satellite laptop (sound working properly). The tech noticed the difference and authorized repair.

REPAIR STATUS:
RETURNED IN POOR STATE, SOUND WAS NOT REPAIRED, AND NASTY GREASE ALL OVER LCD AND LAPTOP

RETURNED NOT REPAIRED - SOUND QUALITY
RETURNED NOT REPAIRED - TREBLE
RETURNED NOT REPAIRED - BASS
RETURNED NOT REPAIRED - LOUDNESS
RETURNED NOT REPAIRED - LEFT AND RIGHT SPEAKERS INTERMITTEN STATIC
RETURNED NOT REPAIRED - LEFT AND RIGHT SPEAKERS INTERMITTEN AND SHORTING OUT

JUST WASTED MY TIME AND COST ME MONEY.

2) THE C:\ HARD DRIVE FAILED AND HAS TO BE REPLACED

PROBLEM: TWO PREMATURE BATTERY FAILURES
PAVILLION SHOWS BATTERY AS BEING 100% CHARGED, BUT BATTERY ACTUALLY WORKS FOR 20 MINUTES OR LESS.

REPORTED FAILURES 4 MONTHS INTO PURCHASE AND PROBLEM IGNORED BY BOTH TECH SUPPORT AND FIRST HP CASE MANAGER WHO WAS EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL AND RUDE (Called me a lier and tells me my HP problems did not happen. Read more; category HP-Case Manager). HE NEGATIVELY TAGGED MY ACCOUNT MAKING CERTAIN I RECEIVED NO SUPPORT WHEN CALLING IN. SO FOR MONTHS I HAD TO LIVE WITH NO PHONE SUPPORT EVEN THOUGH I PURCHASED BEST EXTENDED WARRANTY PACKAGE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO RECEIVE ANY PHONE SUPPORT DUE TO HP CASE MANAGER UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR.

6 MONTHS LATER PHONED IN NEW PROBLEMS AND ASSIGNED TO ANOTHER CASE MANAGER, AGAIN ENCOUNTERED CONSISTENT SARCASTIC AND DISRESPECTFUL COMMUNICATION. SHE SAYS BATTERIES COST $150 EACH AND IS NOT REPLACING EVEN THOUGH TECH SUPPORT DOCUMENTED MY REPORTING PROBLEM AND HP NEVER RESOLVING. FOR ME THIS HAS BEEN VERY DISHONEST.

BOTH HP CASE MANAGERS AND SUPPORT WERE CONSISTENT IN USING THE CONVENIENT STATEMENT "THAT'S NOT IN MY DOCUMENTATION" WHEN IGNORING OR TO DISCREDIT THIS AND OTHER REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT ISSUES (category HP-Case Manager).
